Born in a city where the food is as diverse as the people and their culture, the rich and flavorful Muffuletta (pronounced Moof-uh-letta) delights and surprises all who taste it. Originally created in New Orleans, the word muffuletta derives from an old Sicilian word “muffa”, which describes a large, round, dense bread that is stuffed with assorted meats and cheeses. The muffuletta also contains the delectable Gambino’s Italian olive salad, without which the ideal sandwich is not complete.
Gambino’s Italian olive salad, whose main ingredients are the green olives which we import from the coast of Spain and Sicily, contains the freshest of vegetables, from celery and cauliflower to carrots and black olives. Top this exquisite olive salad over layers of ham, salami, and provolone cheese to create this savory treat known as the muffuletta. As for the foundation of this immense yet easily portioned sandwich is the muffuletta bread itself. The bread originates with a very traditional Italian bread making process that forms a soft dense interior surrounded by a golden brown crust covered with sesame seeds.
Word of this famous New Orleans muffuletta sandwich is spreading to all corners of America. The secret to the best muffuletta is of course Gambino’s Italian Olive Salad and Gambino’s muffuletta breads. Get ahead of the trend and start serving this treat to your customers today.
Our imported olives and fresh American grown peppers and other vegetables will give you a variety of offerings to accent your favorite dishes.

ITALIAN OLIVE SALADS
The original Olive Salad for muffulettas was a combination consisting of olives diced with celery, cauliflower and carrot, seasoned with oregano and garlic, covered in olive oil, and allowed to combine for at least 24 hours. Over the years, we’ve experimented with, and added several varieties of olive salad to appeal to wider tastes.

Gambino’s Muffuletta Ingredients
(serves 4 people with hearty appetites)
1 loaf of Gambino’s 9″ Muffuletta Bread
6 ounces Salami, thinly sliced
6 ounces Capicola (ham), thinly sliced
6 ounces Mortadella (cheese), thinly sliced
6 ounces Provolone (cheese), thinly sliced
6 ounces Mozzarella (cheese), thinly sliced
4 fluid ounces of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
8 ounces of Gambino’s Italian Olive Salad (enough to cover the bread with a 1/4 to 1/2 inch layer)
Building the Muffuletta
Step (1): Split the Gambino’s Muffuletta bread in half horizontally, and toast each half (to taste), either on a flat top stove or in the oven.
Step (2): Out of the oven, apply the Olive Oil evenly to the inner side of each half of the Muffuletta loaf
Step (3): Begin layering your thin sliced meats and cheeses to the sandwich. Alternate meat and cheese layers to really accentuate the different colors and textures.
Step (4): About 2/3 of the way in your layering meats and cheeses, add the layer of Gambino’s Italian Olive Salad.
Step (5): Finish layering your remaining meats and cheeses over the Olive Salad layer.
Step (6): Place the top half of the Muffuletta loaf on the sandwich, and using a large knife, quarter the sandwich into (4) equal parts. [PRO TIP – Before cutting & serving, some people pop the whole muffuletta into the oven for a few minutes to melt the cheese and serve it warm.]
Step (7): Serve with your favorite Italian wine, and enjoy!
