MAKING AN AUTHENTIC NEW ORLEANS MUFFULETTA
Gambino’s Muffuletta Ingredients
(serves 4 people with hearty appetites)
1 loaf of Gambino’s 9″ Muffuletta Bread
6 ounces Salami, thinly sliced
6 ounces Capicola (ham), thinly sliced
6 ounces Mortadella (cheese), thinly sliced
6 ounces Provolone (cheese), thinly sliced
6 ounces Mozzarella (cheese), thinly sliced
4 fluid ounces of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
8 ounces of Gambino’s Italian Olive Salad (enough to cover the bread with a 1/4 to 1/2 inch layer)
Building the Muffuletta
Step (1): Split the Gambino’s Muffuletta bread in half horizontally, and toast each half (to taste), either on a flat top stove or in the oven.
Step (2): Out of the oven, apply the Olive Oil evenly to the inner side of each half of the Muffuletta loaf
Step (3): Begin layering your thin sliced meats and cheeses to the sandwich. Alternate meat and cheese layers to really accentuate the different colors and textures.
Step (4): About 2/3 of the way in your layering meats and cheeses, add the layer of Gambino’s Italian Olive Salad.
Step (5): Finish layering your remaining meats and cheeses over the Olive Salad layer.
Step (6): Place the top half of the Muffuletta loaf on the sandwich, and using a large knife, quarter the sandwich into (4) equal parts. [PRO TIP – Before cutting & serving, some people pop the whole muffuletta into the oven for a few minutes to melt the cheese and serve it warm.]
Step (7): Serve with your favorite Italian wine, and enjoy!
